From the description of the ford in Woolley's journal it is clear that the place was indeed the Crossing of the Fathers. There has long persisted a story to the effect that sometime during the war with the Navajos, the Mormons blasted off a ledge "at the north end of the trail" at the Crossing of the Fathers and thus ruined the trail...
