Description Journal: Anthropological Notes, University of Utah Department of Anthropology, "Outline History of the Glen Canyon Region 1776 - 1922", Number 42, September 1959, page 6 literally blanketed the region with topographic maps of exceptional value. Using the maps of the Powell, Wheeler, and Hayden surveys as base and filling in the blanks with further surveys, the United States Geological Survey, under Powell's direction, published, by 1896, topographical quadrangles covering the entire Glen Canyon region. These were admittedly reconnaissance maps but they were not replaced by anything better of the general region until the Geological Survey began, in 1951, to...
