Title | Memorandum on Colorado Salinity Problem |
Description | Memorandum: From J.F. Friedkin, Commissioner, "Colorado Salinity Problem, Question: Would tile drains in the Wellton-Mohawk District provide a solution to the international problem?" August 23, 1964 (photocopy), page 3 -3- to high salinity and inadequate drainage. In the 1950's Mexico installed some 900 miles of gravity drains in the Valley, which appeared to have largely alleviated but probably not removed the problem in all areas. Thus, the Mexicali Valley has had a salinity problem since its early days, like many areas in our own southwest. Thus, too, the Mexicali farmers are very sensitive about the salinity of their irrigation water. The question is one of increase in the degree of the problem....
