Description | Life in the mines in Glen Canyon was rough and primitive. It was pretty much an outdoor affair. Men lived in the open or in tents, shacks, caves or under sheltering cliffs. In more permanent locations, dugouts, shacks of better quality, and small rock houses were built. Lumber was scarce in the canyon but driftwood often fulfilled the need for it, as it also provided a convenient supply of firewood. The most substantial houses in Glen Canyon were the Kohler cabin (site 82), Loper's cabin... Epson Perfection 4870 Photo, 400 dpi, 8 bit, 13,645,824 bytes |
