Description There is an immense body of literature relating to the Navajo Indians, most of it produced by others than historians. I have found no satisfactory account of the expansion of the Navajo frontier outward, especially toward the lower San Juan River and Glen Canyon, from the Canyon de Chelly region. Works like those by Kluckhohn and Leighton (1958) and the popular book by Underhill (1956) are helpful on Navajo relations with the whites.
