Description went down to look at the crossing, the same one, Woolley says, which three years before the Navajos had used when they escaped with sheep stolen from Whitmore. From the description of the ford in Woolley's journal it is clear that the place was indeed the Crossing of the Fathers. There has long persisted a story to the effect that sometime during the war with the Navajos, the Mormons blasted off a ledge "at the north end of the trail" at the Crossing of the Fathers and thus ruined the trail...
