Its salinity which approximates sea water in total strength was 34 parts per thousand (p.p.t.) in 1955, and is increasing about 0.4 p.p.t. per year. The orangemouth corvina and sargo, the important sport fish, and the food-chain life important to the fish and waterfowl, are endangered by the increases.
