Abstract The OSU MASLWR Test facility is a scaled integral systems LOCA and proof-of-concept
test facility for the Multi-Application Small Light Water Reactor design concept. A unique
feature of this design is to utilize a small high pressure containment vessel to provide the
safety containment function for an integral reactor pressure vessel. The containment vessel sits in a pool of water which acts as the ultimate heat sink for any accident scenarios making the wall to pool free convective heat transfer important to the overall safety evaluation of the design concept. Test data from the test facility is reduced to get heat transfer rates and heat transfer coefficients for variety of test scenarios. The heat transfer is compared to existing free convective heat transfer correlations. The test facility is then modeled in RELAP5-3D to compare the overall heat transfer predicted by the code to the test data. Modeling sensitivities were also performed to investigate various modeling techniques.
