Abstract Spiropyrans are a family of photosensitive molecules their hydrophobic properties when irradiated with light. Since spiropyran can be controlled by light, it can be used to regulate transport across membrane media. The ability to control the release of a substance onto a platform is promising in reducing the cost of drug delivery and release, imaging and diagnosis. This presentation discusses a low cost method to synthesizing Spiropyrans and ways to functionalize them on paper surfaces.
