Abstract Body Fires is a collection of poems that addresses body, faith, empathy, and intimacy in the context of chronic illness. The speaker explores and blurs the dichotomies between know and no, knowledge and uncertainty, life and death, and the personal and universal. She enters the poetic tradition of the lyric, drawing connections between the biblical and the mythic, as she attempts not to find closure in her own illness narrative, but rather to create an opening for her violent body's integration into a history, a present, and a future.
