| Abstract | "Dark Meat" is a collection of seven short stories. All the stories are set in the Deep South, and the complicated and curious aspects of this region--historical, geographical, and cultural--serve to accentuate the uncanny themes running throughout the entire body of work. The stories explore and question the vulnerability and fragility of the human body--particular the female body--as well as the themes of flight or escape, illness, female friendships, and relationships between animals and people. |
