Abstract "The main focus of this dissertation is a dispute brought before a California superior court between minority and non-minority welfare department employees over the preservation of jobs; the dispute was brought before a California superior court for settlement. The research is presented in the form of an extended case study, in that it attempts to reset the legally delineated court case "in the framework of the on-going social process from which it was abstracted." It is the purpose of this study to describe the events under consideration, to illustrate the nature of the conflict involved, and to discuss implications--both social and theoretical."--P. 2.
