Abstract The effects of boundary geometry on internal density currents
in a density stratified reservoir were investigated in a laboratory
model. When water was simultaneously withdrawn and admitted to
the reservoir, a complex current regime was established. The general
flow pattern is described, and the influence of physical variables
on the current regime is demonstrated. No analytical treatment is
attempted due to the complexity of the problem.
