Abstract The acceleration in a second-order system is directly controllable
by the input. The Acceleration-Oriented Learning Controller
generates the input to control a second-order system and adjust this
input based on observations of the system's response in order to obtain
a particular acceleration pattern.
Large changes with time and some nonlinearities can result in
situations which the controller can not handle satisfactorily in the normal
manner. Several of these situations are discussed along with the
provisions which were or could be made to handle them.
The Acceleration-Oriented Learning Controller was tested on
some time-varying and nonlinear second-order systems. The results
show that it can, in fact, obtain a desired acceleration pattern when
controlling a wide range of second-order systems.
