Abstract A method is presented for developing a detailed non-linear
voltage regulator system model representation for use in power
system stability studies. This model is implemented within MIMIC,
a digital simulator program, with a particular set of data which
could be taken from field tests. Results are presented from simulations
of a load rejection of 28.3 percent from a hydroelectric
generator while operating at full-load, unity power factor, and a load
acceptance of the same amount while operating at 71.7 percent full-load,
unity power factor. These simulations, under the same conditions,
were also performed with two other models (one recommended
by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and the other
currently being used by the General Electric Company). The three
sets of results are compared and differences are noted. A discussion
of the numerical accuracy of the results is also included.
