Abstract A pulse reader for ionization chambers has been developed,
tested, and calibrated. An insulated gate field effect transistor
(IGFET) was used to detect the pulses and Victoreen Model 362
Pocket Chambers were used as ionization chambers. The energy
dependence of the Victoreen Model 362 Pocket Chamber was determined
to be zero to -14% for photon energies ranging from 152 keV
to 33 keV. The pulse reader was found to be stable at room temperature
over a period of two months. Exposures of 30 mR ± 1.0 mR and
exposures as low as 1.0 mR ± 0.5 mR were measured.
