Abstract A study of the scales of Umpqua River spring chinook salmon was made
from mid-September to December 1, 1951. The study was undertaken to
determine the age composition and probable life history of spring Chinooks
in this river. The study was made at the Oregon State College Fisheries
Research Laboratory at Yaquina, Oregon. The salmon scales were obtained
by fishery biologists and other personnel of the State Game Commission.
Scales obtained in the years 1946 through 1951 were studied.
