Description The work described in this paper was conducted for the United States Bureau of Fisheries during the summers of 1911, 1912, and 1913. The investigation was in charge of George Kemmerer, who was responsible for the soundings, the temperature observations, and the chemical work in determining the dissolved gases. During the summer of 1911 John F. Bovard served as biologist, and in 1912 and 1913 W. R. Boorman.
