Description "1364 The open cut excavation for the Arizona spillway. The top-heading for the spillway raise has been holed through and can be seen on the spillway face. July 20th, 1932. 1312 Electric shovels used for tunnel excavation are being used in handling muck in the spillway open cut. July 14th, 1932. 1377 Another view of the Arizona spillway open-cut excavation. Trucks, shovel and other equipment are being withdrawn for a blast on the bench in the background. July 21, 1932." In 1931, Utah joined Six Companies Inc. to raise the surety required to bid for the Boulder (Hoover) Dam contract. One of the world’s largest dams, Hoover Dam was completed in 1936 at a cost of $49 million. These scrapbooks document through photographs the construction of the dam showcasing UCC's part in its creation. black and white photographs 4 x 5.3 in. or 8 x 4.8 in. paper background 10 x 13.5 in.
