Field Value
Title Prehistoric Ditch Near Ruidoso Creek
Subject Ancient irrigation ditch
Description Photograph. Located in the Sierra Blanca area of Southern New Mexico, the actual dates of the ditch are unknown. By one estimate, however, the ditch may be as much as 2000 years old making it one of the most ancient of irrigation ditches in New Mexico. Deposits of lime in the water from nearby spring formed the concrete like foundation and walls. The remaining structure is almost 5 feet high and several feet wide in places.
