Format Scanned from originals using Silverfast AI 6.0 on UMAX Powerlook III flatbed scanner. Scanned images saved as 16 bit grayscale and 48>24 RGB color tiffs. Omnipage 14 used to OCR 8 bit tiffs and generate text files for full text access. 16 bit grayscale and 48>24 RGB color tiffs edited in Photoshop CS 8.0: cropped, rotated, reduced in size, levels adjusted, bit depth reduced to 8 and JPEGs created.
Description extends down to the lower rapid. The formation is basaltic; the island is in places covered with bowlders, but is mostly bare, and the exposed surface is cut and channeled in every direction by the constant action of the river at the high stages, when this island is submerged. The main body of the river flows through the channel on the left, forming a rapid opposite Station 12-L, having at low water at fall of 12 feet, which at high water is reduced to only 4 or 5 feet.
