Description | Earthquake waves often visit the coast. One can be observed on the sheet March 29, and a very marked one on August 27, which lasted for several days and was caused by earthquake shocks in Java; the most important pulsations followed each other at intervals of about 30 minutes, and the height of the highest wave from hollow to crest at the gauge was about half a foot; this agitation of the ocean lasted for about three days. * Very respectfully, J.
