Format Scanned from originals using Silverfast AI 6.0 on UMAX Powerlook III flatbed scanner. Scanned images saved as 16 bit grayscale and 48>24 RGB color tiffs. Omnipage 14 used to OCR 8 bit tiffs and generate text files for full text access. 16 bit grayscale and 48>24 RGB color tiffs edited in Photoshop CS 8.0: cropped, rotated, reduced in size, levels adjusted, bit depth reduced to 8 and JPEGs created.
Description Earthquake waves often visit the coast. One can be observed on the sheet March 29, and a very marked one on August 27, which lasted for several days and was caused by earthquake shocks in Java; the most important pulsations followed each other at intervals of about 30 minutes, and the height of the highest wave from hollow to crest at the gauge was about half a foot; this agitation of the ocean lasted for about three days. * Very respectfully, J.
