Description | over, was used to extend the bottom revetment of the Saint Helen's Dike and strengthen one part by bracing piles. The driving of these piles, 306 in number, was done by contract. A comparison of a survey, May, 1885, of the lower crossing at Saint Helen's with the one of September, 1884, shows an advancement of the 24 foot curve of depth of 500 feet and gives promise that a completion of the longitudinal dike without the cross-dikes of the system would open the channel.
