Description | SURVEYS DURING THE YEAR. Early in July a survey was made of the upper end of Saint Helen's Bar to determine the best line for dredging a ship-channel. Later in November a survey was made of the upper channel at the foot of Sauvie's Island, and of the lower channel adjacent; to the rocky plateau on the Washington Territory side and a zigzag line of soundings was run between them along the bar from side to side to show the changes during the year.
