Description | of the river, a distance of 84 miles, was made September-October, 1878, under the direction of Maj. J. M. Wilson, Corps of Engineers. The improvement of the river above the north fork was found impracticable, but Major Wilson states in his report of October 16, 1878, that a depth of 4 feet could be obtained from the north fork to Lewiston, a distance of 40 miles, by removing solid rock, loose rock, and cobblestones, at a cost of $31,124.
