Scanned images saved as 16 bit grayscale tiffs. 309.332 kb 8 bit - Gray Gamma 2.2 - greyscale Omnipage 14 used to OCR 8 bit tiffs and generate text files for full text access. 16 bit grayscale and 48>24 RGB color tiffs edited in Photoshop CS 8.0: cropped, rotated, reduced in size, levels adjusted, grayscale bit depth reduced to 8 and JPEGs created.
Description of the river, a distance of 84 miles, was made September-October, 1878, under the direction of Maj. J. M. Wilson, Corps of Engineers. The improvement of the river above the north fork was found impracticable, but Major Wilson states in his report of October 16, 1878, that a depth of 4 feet could be obtained from the north fork to Lewiston, a distance of 40 miles, by removing solid rock, loose rock, and cobblestones, at a cost of $31,124.
