Description | (concave) the bank is 15 feet high, and of sandy soil, overlying gravel which is from 3 to 5 feet thick ; under this is a hard-pan, a ledge of which extends out into the river. On the opposite side the bank is low and shelving, composed of loose gravel thinly covered down to the low-water line with willows of recent growth.
