Description | REDUCTION OF FIBER AND BOD LOADINGS Two constituents present in pulp and paper manufacturing wastes discharged to the Columbia River contribute to the slime problem in the stream. Evidence indicates that slimes develop on suspended fiber discharged by the mills. There is also evidence pointing to the proliferation of slime growths due to nutrient contributions contained in mill wastes. Principally this concerns the carbohydrate fraction available in readily usable form, Similar slime... |
