Description | Administration suggested the accelerated completion of the powerplant at Bonneville Dam. As a result of a formal request by the Secretary of the Interior to the Secretary of War, the matter was submitted to Congress early in 1939. Congress then approved and appropriated funds for the completion of six of the ten units in the Bonneville powerhouse. Added urgency was given to the program by the proclamation issued by the President on September 8, 1939, declaring a limited national emergency.... |
