The farmer's wife and daughter were in the field when I reached it and from them I obtained a couple of fine, ripe melons cut fresh from the vine, and the last I was to get for the season. The storm expended itself during the night and, the morning of October 21 being calm, I easily ran the second and third sections of John Day Rapids, and turning a bend to the left, a most beautiful sight burst unexpectedly... |
