Description | cabin, and stopped to investigate. In one room there was a small cot mattress', in good condition except that squirrels or mice had eaten away about a foot of one end. I had had some hard beds occasionally, spruce trees were becoming scarce, superseded by the pine, and pine needles make a poor bed. I appropriated the mattress, sewed up the open end, and although it was a little short the mattress served nicely, and thereafter there was no necessity of gathering boughs to lie on at night.... |
