Description | The Great Jetty Works at the Mouth of the Columbia River. The project under which the work of improving the mouth of the Columbia River is being carried on was adopted in 1884. It contemplates providing a channel across the Columbia River bar, having a depth of 30 feet at mean low tide. This is to be effected by concentrating the water flowing over the bar, and increasing the resultant current to such a degree as to procure the desired depth.
