Scanned images saved as grayscale and as 2 tone black and white multi-page tiffs. 356,089 bytes 8 bit - Gray Gamma 2.2 - grayscale Omnipage 14 used to OCR black and white multi-page tiffs and generate text files for full text access. Grayscale multi-page tiffs split with libtif tiffsplit script. Individual tiffs edited in Photoshop 6.0: cropped, rotated, reduced in size, and JPEGs created. |
Description | LUMBER RAFTS ON THE COLUMBIA RIVER. The States of Oregon and Washington have seen a remarkable development of the method of transporting lumber to California by sea in the form of large built-up rafts, and although the increase in the price of timber of the kind which has been shipped by this method wakes it likely that no more rafts of the kind will be built, this unique and daring means of transportation will always remain as one of the curiosities of the lumber trade of the Pacific coast.... |
