The item of the week is “William Hume’s Cannery, Eagle Cliff, Columbia River, Washington, ca. 1897.” From the item description, “Site of the first salmon cannery established in the Pacific Northwest in 1865 by William Hume.” This item comes to the WWDL from University of Washington’s Tollman and Canaris Photograph collection, which documented the history of salmon fishing on the Washington coast.
